Actor who has gained fame for his work on both stage and screen, including as a frequent performer of August Wilson's material. He has appeared in a litany of critically acclaimed films, including Fences, Lady Bird, and Lincoln.
He was part of the Juilliard School Drama Division's Group 1 before leaving. He would later earn his BFA in acting from the North Carolina School of the Arts in1 972.
He appeared in the critically acclaimed film Manchester by the Sea in 2016 as Mr. Emery. He also was a series regular on New Amsterdam in 2008.
He married his wife Pamela Reed Henderson in 1978.
He appeared with Saoirse Ronan in the 2017 film Lady Bird.
