Stage actress best known for being an acting teacher and the founder of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York and the The Stella Adler Academy of Acting in Los Angeles. Her school produced actors Robert De Niro and Jenny Lumet.
She began acting at age 4 in the Independent Yiddish Art Company.
She was the only American actor to study with Russian acting teacher Constantin Stanislavski, founder of 'method' acting.
Her grandson Tom Oppenheim inherited the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.
She was the first acting teacher of legendary screen actor Marlon Brando.
