Stanislaus Joyce
Memoirist
The brother of author James Joyce, he inspired several of his their sibling's literary characters. He published his memoir, Recollections of James Joyce, in 1950.
He was a local politician who inherited land near Cork, Ireland, from his father. He later taught English at the University of Trieste.
He frequently rescued his brilliant but bohemian brother from financial disaster.
He was the inspiration for James Joyce's their character, Simon Dedalus (from A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man).
James Joyce also based Humphrey Chimpden Earwicker, in Finnegans Wake, on Stanislaus Joyce.
