Famous for her Latin Grammy-winning album Soraya (2003) and for her Latin Grammy-nominated recording El Otro Lado de Mi (2005), Soraya is also remembered for her work on behalf of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
She released her debut studio album, the bilingual On Nights Like This/ En Esta Noche, in 1996 on the Island Records label.
She attended Rutgers University in New Jersey.
Born to Colombian parents, Soraya Raquel Lamilla Cuevas spent her early years in both New Jersey, U.S.A. and her parents' native country. Tragically, at age thirty-seven, she died of breast cancer, the same disease that had killed her mother, grandmother, and aunt.
She toured with both Natalie Merchant and Alanis Morissette.
