Candle in the Wind

About

Written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, the single from the former was made in honor of Marilyn Monroe who had died 11 years earlier. It is described as a threnody, or a song of mourning.

Trivia

A rewritten version of the song made in tribute to Princess Diana was released, and became the second best-selling single of all time, only trailing Bing Crosby's "White Christmas."
