Bandleader on The Tonight Show in the 1950s and 1960s. He was the recipient of the Handel Medallion from the City of New York for his contribution to New York City culture.
He would play local taverns with accomplished singers accompanying him.
He helped teach Judy Garland how to sing "Over the Rainbow."
He married Faye Emerson in 1950, then, after their divorce in 1957, he married Ruth Einseidel Michaels on February 7, 1958.
In 1937, he accompanied Mickey Rooney on an MGM promotional tour.
