Buddhist who was the King of Cambodia from 1927 to 1941. Hus rule was marked by the increased communist influence within his country.
He reached the rank of Chief of Battalion while serving in the Cambodian Army.
He retired in 1941 during World War II as the Japanese and Thai oppression of Cambodians became more evident.
He fathered 64 children in his lifetime.
He became King of Cambodia in 1927, after the passing of his father Sisowath I.
