Vallenato singer and Timbales player, he is one of the more mainstream singers of this genre. He has been nominated for various Latin Grammy and Premios Nuestra Tierra awards.
He knew he wanted to be a singer in high school and dedicated his full attention to it upon graduating high school. He released his debut album Tanto para Tí in 2002.
His father was an amateur singer known as El Palomo.
He grew up with his brother Carlos Ivan in La Guajira. He married his childhood sweetheart Pieri Avendaño and they have three children together, Luis Jose, Silvestre Jose and Jose Silvestre.
He is a their Colombian vallenato singer like Diomedes Diaz.
