Sigurd Lewerentz
Architect
Helped design the Malmo Opera and Music Theatre, a leading example of Functionalist architecture. One of the main architects for the 1930 Stockholm International Exhibition.
He studied mechanical engineering at the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. He then apprenticed as an architect in Germany before opening his own office in 1911.
He also designed furniture; he was known for winning the design contest with Gunnar Asplund of the Stockholm South (Woodland) Cemetery.
He was born in the town of Sando and died in Lund.
He and Dregen both became famed Swedish architects, albeit in different generations.
