Indian actress and dancer who won National Film Awards for her roles in Manichithrathazhu (1993) and Mitr, My Friend (2002). She has won several awards for performances, including two National Film Awards, a Kerala State Film Award, four Filmfare Awards, and one Vanitha Film Award.
She studied with such their Bharata Natyam dancers as Padma Subrahmanyam and Chitra Visweswaran and had a successful career as a dancer and choreographer when she was in her twenties.
She received four Best Malayalam Actress Filmfare Awards for her roles in Kshamichu Ennoru Vakku (1986), Sasneham (1990), Innale (1990), and Minnaram (1994).
Her three aunts-- known collectively as the Travancore sisters-- were well-known Indian actresses and dancers. Shobana adopted a daughter named Ananthanarayani in 2010.
She and Bollywood singer, Kumar Sanu, were both awarded the prestigious Padma Shri honor for their contributions to Indian music and dance.
