Salvadoran politician who ran for president in 2004 and who was a guerrilla leader in the late 1970s and early 1980s during the Salvadoran Civil War.
He joined the Communist Party of El Salvador in the early 1960s.
He died two years after he unsuccessfully ran for president of El Salvador as the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front's candidate.
He is the son of Palestinian immigrants.
He was a Latin American Communist leader like Fidel Castro.
