Serzh Sargsyan
Politician
Affiliated with the Armenian Republican Party, he took office in 2008 as his country's third President. Previously, he had served as Armenian Prime Minister and as Minister of both Defense and National Security.
In the early 1970s, he interrupted his philology studies at Yerevan State University to briefly join the Soviet Armed Forces.
During Sargsyan's presidential administration, fellow Republican politician Tigran Sargsyan served as Prime Minister.
His marriage to music teacher and humanitarian Rita Aleksandri Sargsyan resulted in two children: Satenik and Anush.
While he served as a political leader in Armenia, his contemporary, Karekin II, led the Armenian Orthodox Church.
