Acclaimed Austrian stage and screen actress and producer. Her roles include Hester Prynne in the 1973 film version of The Scarlet Letter and Eva in the 1977 movie Cross of Iron.
She began acting when she was four years old and dancing when she was five. In her late twenties, she joined Vienna's Josefstadt Theatre as the company's youngest performer.
She received numerous acting and film production honors, including a Goldene Kamera Award, an Adolf Grimme prize, and several Bambi Awards.
Her marriage to German director Michael Verhoeven produced two children. Her son Simon also had a career as an actor.
Her 2006 autobiography includes a tale of an uncomfortable encounter with Hollywood producer Darryl F. Zanuck.
