He was great at sports as a child often playing in competitive baseball and he started his adult life studying at London's St. Peter's Seminary to become a priest.
He was involved in politics when he ran against Roy McMurty in the 1979 provincial election for Ontario.
He had five granddaughters: Sophie, Jacqueline, Madeleine, Amelie and Kathleen.
He co-starred with Miranda Richardson in the film, Swann for which he received a Genie Award nomination in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role category.
