After winning Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival awards for Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) and Mary Last Seen (2010), this Canadian-born director worked on the short-lived British television series Southcliffe (2013).
In 2005, he graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
He was interviewed for journalist and film critic Robert K. Elder's book The Best Film You've Never Seen.
Though he was born in Canada, he was raised primarily in London and Surrey, England, and in New York and Connecticut, U.S.A.
His 2011 thriller, Martha Marcy May Marlene, stars Elizabeth Olsen as Martha.
