He originally studied design at Curtin University. He gained further attention as co-editor of Gaia Journal before making his jump into politics in 2001.
He is known for having restored 264 million to the National Rental Affordability Scheme in 2011.
While he was born in Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand, he was raised in Australia, granting him dual citizenship in both countries.
