Open-wheel racer who competed in 14 Indianapolis 500 races, and was a two-time pole position winner.
He began racing at a young age, as his father was a race car engine developer.
After earning the pole for the 1996 Indy 500, he died in a practice run crash.
He was married to Becky Brayton until his death.
After his death, teammate Tony Stewart took over pole position for the race.
