Like many successful designers before her, she studied fashion at the elite Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London.
She was included in Time Magazine's Time 100, a list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2012.
She was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire.
After his death in 2010, she became the head designer for Alexander McQueen.
