Broadway singer and actor who won the first Star Search in 1983, later making it onto the Top 40 with his single Sugar Don't Bite.
He was born in Cushing, Oklahoma, and garnered fame when he sang a rendition of Over the Rainbow on Star Search, making it his signature song.
He earned a Drama Desk Award nomination for his performance in the Broadway revival of Grease, as well as Tony Award and Drama Desk Award nominations for his role in the Broadway musical The Life.
He began dating director Danny Jacobson in 1994 and the couple married in November 2008, after having adopted a son in April of that year.
He was in The Producers, written by Mel Brooks.
