Sam Brownback

Republican politician who became the 46th governor of Kansas after representing his state in the Senate from 1996 to 2011. He enacted the larges income tax cut in the state's history and has signed several anti-abortion bills while in office.
He was the student body president at at Kansas State University and spent about a year working as a broadcaster after graduating.
As governor, he vetoed the government funding for the Kansas Arts Commission in May 2011, making Kansas the first state to de-fund its arts agency.
He had five children with his wife Mary.
He ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, but lost to John McCain.
