Saint Elmo Brady
Chemist
Kentucky-born scientist who was the first African-American recipient of a PhD in chemistry. He went on to teach at Fisk University, the Tuskegee Institute, and Howard University.
He graduated from Fisk University in 1908 and later earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Illinois.
He co-founded a summer institute program in infrared spectroscopy.
He grew up in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was a contemporary of fellow African-American chemist Percy Lavon Julian.
