IndyCar driver known as much for his success as a teenager as for his fearless if controversial racing style. He finished in ninth place at the 2014 Indy 500 despite starting in 31st.
He started kart racing when he was seven years old. He won the F2000 championship in 2010.
In 2015, he was involved in an extremely unfortunate accident during a race when his car spun out and slammed into the wall. Fallout from the crash, in which pieces of his car were sent careening in all directions, resulted in the death of a fellow competitor.
He was born to Jody and Karen and has a sister named Sydnee.
Ryan Hunter-Reay was the winner of the 2014 Indianapolis 500 in which Karam finished ninth.
