Prior to pursuing her music career, she was a teacher and pursuing a poetry MFA from the University of Massachusetts.
She became the frontwoman of the acclaimed indie group Speed Ortiz.
She is a Manhattan native, but has also lived in Philadelphia.
She has been compared to the likes of Liz Phair.
