6-time All-Star who played outfield, first base and designated hitter. During his 23-year career, he had his most success as a member of the New York Mets, Montreal Expos and Houston Astros.
He made his major league debut at age 19.
He only played three years for the Montreal Expos, but his jersey number 10 was retired by the team in 1993.
He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and later lived in West Palm Beach, Florida.
He played for the Montreal Expos for three seasons, the same team that Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter debuted on.
