Roza Rymbayeva
World Music Singer
Named the 1986 National Artist of what was then the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, she released nearly fifteen recordings between the late 1970s and the early 2000s, performing both pop songs and Kazakh folk standards.
Early in her music career, she performed with bands called Gulder and Arai.
She carried the Olympic torch during a 2008 relay event in her native Kazakhstan.
Born in the East Kazakhstan Province, she grew up as the child of railroad employees and later married music manager T. Okapov.
She is a contemporary of fellow Kazakhstani performing artist Oleg Yankovsky.
