British comedian, radio host, author, and actor who played Dennis Potter on the series Lipstick on Your Collar. He was also a prolific voice on the radio and starred in the title role in The Newly Discovered Casebook of Sherlock Holmes in 1999.
He was an advertising agency's messenger, a commercial artist, and a window dresser.
He was regarded as an authority on music hall and served as the President of the British Music Hall Society.
He had a son with his wife Ann, whom he later divorced. He married dancer Debbie Flitcroft in 1988.
He worked with Sir Cliff Richard for a summer job.
