Roscoe Robinson Jr.
War Hero
America's first African-American four-star general. He fought in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, earning two Silver Stars, a Bronze Star, eleven Air Medals, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He began his military service by fighting with segregated units during the Korean War.
He served for two years with the elite Eighty-Second Airborne Division. Later, he became the division's first African-American commander.
He was married to Mildred E. Sims.
He and female pilot Ann Dunwoody both promoted equality within the U.S. Army.
