He began playing for the Eastern Range's U-18 team when he was 16.
He was drafted 44th overall in 2008.
He was born in Melbourne, Australia. His sister Shae was an Australian rules footballer for the Melbourne Football Club. He and his wife, TV presenter Belinda Sloane, have sons named Sonny and Bodhi. Their first son, Leo, was stillborn.
He was taken in the same draft that saw Nic Naitanui selected second overall.
