NHL goalie most their for his years with the Philadelphia Flyers, becoming the most winning goalie in Flyers history. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy in a losing effort against the Edmonton Oilers in the 1986-87 Stanley Cup Final.
He played junior hockey for the the Melville Millionaires in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
During the 1987-88 season, he became the first goalie in NHL history to score a goal into the opponent's open net.
He married figure skater Diane Ogibowski, with whom he has children named Kristin, Jeffrey, Brett and Rebecca.
He was teammates with right winger Rick Tocchet in Philadelphia.
