Former professional midfielder and manager known primarily for winning three league championships and an FA Cup playing for the Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. from 1952 to 1967. He was also a member of the English national soccer team. He won a World Cup in 1966 as a member of England's team.
He began his youth soccer career playing for his hometown club soccer team the Doncaster Rovers.
During his career, he recorded over 529 career club appearances and over 51 international appearances.
He is a native of Edlington, Doncaster.
He played alongside Roger Hunt as a member of the English national team that won the World Cup in 1966.
