Roger Tsien
Biologist
Chinese American biochemist who received the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery and development of the green fluorescent proteins.
He attended Harvard University on a National Merit Scholarship, and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Physics in 1972.
He won the prestigious Gairdner Foundation International Award in 2005 and the Wolf Prize in Medicine the previous year.
His father and two of his uncles were accomplished engineers.
He shared the Nobel Prize with his Israeli colleague Ada Yonath.
