Chilean Abstract Expressionist and Surrealist painter known for "Elle Loge La Folie," "The Clown," and other works.
He studied architecture at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile.
His "inscape" works, including the 1938 piece, "Psychological Morphology," were influenced by biomorphism and Freudian psychoanalysis.
He married Anne Clark; his son, Gordon Matta-Clark, also became an artist.
He once met the influential artist Rene Magritte.
