He competed as a heavyweight in the Junior World Championships in 1998.
He took bronze at the 2004 Olympics and silver in 2012.
He is the son of Giovanna Caraffa and Angelo Cammarelle.
He won gold at the 2008 Olympics where swimmer Michael Phelps won an amazing 8 gold medals.
