British chess champion from New Zealand who dominated play in both countries for some time.
He grew up on a farm in New Zealand and was hard pressed to find adequate competition as a young player.
He was the British National Champion twice (1952 and 1970) and the New Zealand Champion three times (1944, 1945, and 1948).
He was born and raised on the island nation of New Zealand.
He helped Bobby Fischer train for his famed match against Boris Spassky in 1972.
