Robert Leckie
Non-Fiction Author
An American author known for his military history-themed works of fiction and non-fiction, he published a 1957 autobiography entitled Helmet for My Pillow. His other works include Forged (novel), Stormy Voyage (a young adult work), and None Died in Vain: The Saga of the Civil War (non-fiction).
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Second World War. Following the war, he became a reporter for the Associated Press.
His military service was the primary inspiration for his books.
He was born in Pennsylvania, and he and his seven siblings grew up in New Jersey. He married Vera Keller; together, they had three children.
His novel and a similar work by Eugene B. Sledge inspired the HBO program, Band of Brothers.
