Right-handed opening batsman who began playing for Kent in 1998, Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2005.
He won both the Bromley area and Kent cricket cups while attending Worsley Bridge Primary School.
He reached the 1,000 run mark for the season on June 2, the earliest date the milestone had been reached since 1978.
His father played club cricket in Derby.
He replaced an injured Marcus Trescothick for England's second Test against India in 2002.
