Robert Martin Groves
Teacher
Sociologist and statistical survey expert who directed the United States Census Bureau beginning in 2009. He later became Provost of Georgetown University.
After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1970, he earned graduate degrees in sociology and statistics from the University of Michigan.
His publications include Telephone Survey Methodology, Surveying Victims, and Measurement Errors in Survey.
He was born in Missouri and raised in Louisiana. He graduated from New Orleans' De La Salle High School in 1966.
President Barack Obama nominated Groves for the position of Director of the U.S. Census Bureau.
