Robert Adler

Austrian-born American immigrant who worked for Zenith, where he patented the remote control and numerous other items. He was awarded an Emmy by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 1997 for his work.
He left Nazi-occupied territory after completing his Ph.D. in physics at the University of Vienna.
The first remote controls he created used high-frequency sounds to transmit signals to the Television.
He was born to parents Jenny, a doctor, and Max Adler, a social theorist.
He received the 1980 Edison Medal, which was started by friends and associates of Thomas Edison to recognize contributions to electrical science and engineering.
