Retired Australian cyclist known for earning three green jerseys as the Tour de France points classification winner during his career. He was the first Australian to win the competition.
He started his career as a BMX rider but became a road cyclist in 1990. He trained at the Australian Institute of Sport.
He competed for Australia at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. He retired after the 2012 Tour of California and became a coach.
He has three children with his wife Angélique Pattyn.
He competed against the likes of Erik Zabel in Tour de France points qualification competitions.
