English former soccer star best remembered for his days with Charlton Athletic and Newcastle United. He won a Football League First Division title with Newcastle in 1993 and was named to the Premiere League PFA Team of the Year in 1996.
He was born in London and made his senior debut with Charlton Athletic in 1983.
He appeared in the televised charity soccer tournament "Premier League All Stars" in 2007.
He has sons named Elliot and Oliver, both of whom are professional soccer players.
He played alongside Les Ferdinand on the English squad at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
