Ring Lardner

An American sports columnist and short story writer, he satirized theater, athletics, and marriage in works such as Treat 'Em Rough (1918). His other publications include You Know Me Al (1916) and Gullible's Travels (1917).
He worked as a sports columnist for the South Bend Tribune as a teenager. He published his first novel, You Know Me Al, in 1916.
He was a close friend of F. Scott Fitzgerald and other Jazz Age writers.
He married Ellis Abbot in 1911. Together, they had four sons.
Author J.D. Salinger refers to Lardner in The Catcher in the Rye.
