Best known for teaming up with his brother Robert to write songs for Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and other musical films.
He studied music at Bard College.
He and his brother were two-time Academy Award winners for their work on Mary Poppins and 2005 inductees in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
He married his second wife, Ursula Elizabeth Gluck, in 1957. They had two children together.
He wrote songs for two movies starring Dick Van Dyke.
