Richard Willstatter

A German organic chemist who is best known for his study of the structure of plant pigment. He was awarded the 1915 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his important research into chlorophyll.
He obtained a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Munich in 1894.
He developed a filtration system that helped the German army absorb their enemy's poisonous gasses during World War I.
His father was a Jewish textile merchant.
Like Roald Hoffmann, he is a Jewish winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry.
