Richard Matheson
Screenwriter
An American science fiction, horror, and fantasy author and screenwriter, he is best known for his novel-turned-film, I Am Legend. His other popular works include The Shrinking Man, What Dreams May Come, and Bid Time Return.
He fought in World War II and subsequently earned his Bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. He published his first short story, Born of Man and Woman, in 1950.
He received both the World Fantasy Award and the Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement.
He was born in New Jersey to Norwegian immigrant parents. In 1952, he married Ruth Ann Woodson, with whom he later had four children.
His novel, I Am Legend, was made into a feature film starring Will Smith.
