He debuted professionally for Grasshopper in 2002 after spending two years in the club's youth set-up.
He helped Fenerbahce with the Turkish Cup in both 2012 and 2013.
His brother Ronald also became a professional soccer player.
He and striker Eren Derdiyok became teammates on the Swiss national team.
