Beauty queen who, in 1966, became the first woman from an Asian country to win the title of Miss World. She later went on to serve as a judge for Miss World and Femina Miss India.
She was raised in Mumbai, India and attended the all-girl boarding school St. Joseph's Convent School.
After becoming Miss World, she entered the medical profession and started her own practice in Dublin, Ireland.
She married endocrinologist David Powell in 1971. She has children named Deirdre and Ann Marie.
She and Manushi Chhillar are both Miss World winners from India.
