Pope Paul VI ordained Burke to the priesthood in 1975 at Saint Peter's Basilica.
He resigned as the chair of the Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital after they invited the pro-choice singer Sheryl Crow to perform.
He is the youngest of six children.
He had called President Barack Obama an "agent of death" due to his pro-choice views.
