He studied guitar at the University of Alabama.
He served as Director of Student Jazz Programs for the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and was director of the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame All-Stars.
His father Raymond Everett Reach Sr. was a coal miner, and his mother Erma Elizabeth Hillman was a beautician.
He collaborated and recorded with singer Natalie Cole.
