Ray Houghton

Former soccer midfielder known for his time with Liverpool, with whom he won two First Division titles between 1987 and 1992. He made 73 international appearances for the Republic of Ireland.
He played his youth soccer with West Ham United and eventually joined the senior team at 17, but left for Fulham after only making one appearance in three years.
After retiring, he became a sports broadcaster. He has an honorary degree from the University of Huddersfield.
Although born in Scotland, his father was Irish, allowing him to represent the country.
He and Peter Beardsley played together at Liverpool.
