Randall Jarrell

Eleventh United States Poet Laureate, novelist, and children's author whose works include Pictures from an Institution, The Animal Family, and The Lost World. Shortly after publishing The Woman at the Washington Zoo: Poems and Translations, he received the National Book Award.
He spent his youth playing tennis, starring in school plays, and writing satirical essays for his high school's literary publication.
His first poetry collection, Blood for a Stranger, was published in 1942.
He married Mary von Schrader, whom he met in 1952.
He was a literary contemporary of Dylan Thomas.
